Funding to hire and manage your own caregivers
The SMC program lets eligible clients receive funding directly from AHS to hire and manage their own caregivers — for full control over who provides care and how it's delivered.
Eligibility
- Assessed by Alberta Health Services as requiring home care services.
- Stable healthcare needs that can be safely managed at home.
- Able to manage employer duties — or have a family member or legal representative who can.
What Funds Can Be Used For
- Personal care — bathing, dressing, grooming.
- Homemaking — light housekeeping and meal preparation.
- Respite care — temporary relief for family caregivers.
- Other services — as specified in the care plan created during assessment.
